Say It Two Ways Thursdays - FOOD!

This week Chiquita and I took a trip to Tepanyaki, a local Japanese restaurant that makes food in the style of - you got it - teppanyaki.  Basically they grill all your food right at your table, but it's so much more than that with big flames, juggling eggs and lots of jokes.  I looked up teppanyaki on wikipedia and I wasn't terribly surprised to find that it's not "authentic" Japanese.  It started in Japan in 1945, and was never popular with the local like with tourists.

My husband and I have enjoyed this restaurant and others like it many times before, even with Chiquita when she was younger, but this was the first time we'd been in about a year so I knew her reaction might be different.  She loved the tropical fish and the Maneki-nekos (good luck cats) but once the first flame went up she was scared.  She covered her mouth the whole time so it was hard to get rice around her hand.  I know part of it was that she's been extremely shy with men for the last year so she wasn't excited about our chef either.  When he left she let her hand come down to gobble fried rice (one of her favorites).

Sorry, I didn't take any pictures cause I had a scared Chiquita in my arms...  We did learn how to say thank you in Japanese though - "arigatou" and Chiquita was even brave enough to say it to our chef and waitress.

My favorite posts from last week also involved food!

Piwi Princess made their own tablea - to make hot chocolate!  What's makes a yummy bridge across the cultual divide than chocolate?  This is definitely on our to-do list.

Life is Fantasmic showed off their adorable muffin tin Chinese New Year inspired lunch.  I really liked the cinnamon roll snake.  I've done muffin tins once or twice with Chiquita.  I need to do it again because she's getting to be a picky eater.

On to the link- up!

    1. I'm glad you like it! I chose the topic of the link up pretty selfishly because these were the posts that I most wanted to see. That's the benefit of hosting right?

  2. thanks for the feature! We loved to eat teppanyaki before we had kids and a couple of years ago decided to splurge and take our daughters there -wethought they would think it was really fun but like you we ended up with freaked out kids hiding from the flames! Maybe when they are older :-)

  4. What a wonderful trip. My daughter is very shy around men as well and has been for all her life. Only now at age 4 is she getting comfortable around the ones we see each week. Oh, well. Thank you for sharing at Sharing Saturday!!
