Well I'm extending it indefinitely. Running this blog has kept me inspired and active with my kids and I have loved it! However when my plate gets too full I have to let something go and apparently it's not blogging season for me anymore.

I will leave the blog up and I hope it can be a resource to you and yours!yogamamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02561110304439278085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4256156571286733516.post-47030643927493529382014-11-07T06:00:00.000-08:002014-11-07T22:05:28.997-08:00Book Review: Buffalo Song NAHM Blog Hop

Honestly when I sat down to read this book with Chiquita I didn't expect to like it. The realistic illustrations aren't my style and I wasn't sure Chiquita would have the patience for the historical tale with no little girls in it.

I was wrong.

After choking back tears for the first few pages when a herd of buffalo were killed for their tongues, both Chiquita and I fell in love with Little Thunder Hoof, the surviving buffalo calf. As we followed the story of the little adopted herd's journey to find a home under the care of Walking Coyote I was transported too. I remember at the age of 19 seeing an American Bison for the first time at Yellowstone National Park and just being in total awe! I know we will make this trip next year so Chiquita can have the same experience. Scroll down for a chance to win the beautiful book.

Our life is a little crazy right now so we didn't do a craft, but Chiquita has been really into beading and we did talk about how some Native American tribes used beads as money. Chiquita thought that was a great idea, she'd actually suggested it several times before, even filling her piggy bank with beads. When the settlers came and traded with the people for beads it took some time for them to catch on that the beads didn't have the same value to the Europeans since they were able to mass produce them. Chiquita's first lesson on hostile inflation.

I had to throw a last minute costume together for a party. After wracking my brain and scouring pinterest I realized the answer was obvious: Dia de los Muertos Calavera. Mexican Day of the Dead is full of colorful skull images dressed up as they were in life, so for this costume all you need is makeup. You really can wear any clothes you want.
I made myself a tissue paper flower and went with a dress and scarf for a little more traditional look, but I think it would be fun to add different twists. The make-up was $2 at Walmart and took me maybe 10 minutes to put on.yogamamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02561110304439278085noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4256156571286733516.post-91010284031547567952014-10-26T19:17:00.000-07:002014-10-26T19:17:13.063-07:00No Carve Pumpkin DecoratingIs it already October? We've been so busy moving this month that
we're barely starting Halloween activities. Chiquita and I picked up
some little pumpkins to decorate. I decided we should try out a bunch
of different decoration techniques I had found on other blogs.

Melted wax from Life with Moore Babies - I got a little tea light candle and with
careful supervision Chiquita heated up a crayon and let it drip on the
pumpkin, sometimes making dots and drawing.

Googly Eyes from All You
- I didn't have any adhesive backed eyes and I knew that glue was going
to be messy or prevent Chiquita from fully participating. So I poured a little glue on top of a sponge and let her dip the eyes in it. She still got glue all over her fingers and wanted to wash her fingers after one pumpkin.

Gluing other random stuff on it from Chiquita. I was going for themed pumpkins, but she wouldn't have it. I gave in and let her glue googly eyes, chunks of pipe cleaners, buttons, and anything else she wanted on the last pumpkin. It's all about happy kids, right?

Speaking of making kids happy, I couldn't get an "after" picture because Chiquita wanted to play with them and take them places. The wax pumpkin is currently loss. Wish me luck finding it before it rots! yogamamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02561110304439278085noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4256156571286733516.post-70067959404010012072014-10-23T06:00:00.000-07:002014-10-23T06:00:00.459-07:00Pirate Princess Party on a Budget

1. Loot - I decided not to do goodie bags, but to give out plastic coins during the party and let the kids pick their own toys from a little treasure chest. That way I hoped they would actually like what they got and not just throw it away. Here's what we included in our treasure chest:

Every kid took a bag home but I still had so much left that I think it will cover Halloween trick-or-treaters. Spent: $35

2. Activities

Pirate dress up: When the kids first arrived I had a dress up station with pirate bandanas, pink or black paper pirate hats, and tp roll telescopes. Some kids came already in costume. I had a few older neighbor girls help me with the party (in return for cake and loot) and that was particularly helpful here. Spent: $16

Princess Jewels and Pirate Necklaces: I got pretty pony beads for the princess jewels with pink wrapping ribbon to string them on. For the pirate necklaces I had black and red pony beads, skull beads and black wrapping ribbon. I popped them into ziplock baggies and the kids could pick pirate, princess or both! Chiquita of course did both - on one necklace! Spent: $15

Walking the plank: Just a board on top of two boxes. We happened to have a blanket my sister made with an alligator on it to put under. It would be fun just with a blue tarp or some ocean toys under the plank. Spent: $0

Treasure egg hunt: I spray painted a bunch of left-over easter eggs silver and filled them with plastic coins (to buy loot). The idea was to have an egg hunt outside but it rained TONS. So I did some quick thinking and came up with:

Fishing for treasure: I just took a shower curtain rod and shower curtain and set it up in a doorway. The kids had a fishing rod made from a stick, some string and a paper clip. Spent: $8

Storytime: I found a book, "Pirate Pearl" that was perfect for this
party. A princess is raised by pirates and gets the best of both
worlds. I let any kids who wanted come into another room for storytime. It was nice to bring a little quiet and calm into a very high energy party. Spent: $5 (Could be free if you could find it at your library)

Pin the Eyepatch on the Pirate Girl. I enlarged a picture of a pirate girl and cut out a bunch of pink eye patches. Really easy! Spent: $0

Treasure Chest Pinata: I knew I could make a pinata that was basically just a box! I found an easy tutorial at momssavingmoney.com and then filled it with fruit snack and pirate lollipops. Spent: $15

3. Decorations - I didn't do a lot for decorations. I honestly expected to be outside so didn't do much. I printed out these pirate pennants from this website and glued them on burlap triangles. I sewed the triangles onto yarn with a zigzag stitch and hung it in the kitchen. Done! Spent: $6

4. Food - I won the cake at a neighborhood service auction. Awesome right? It was delicious as well as beautiful. I added some goldfish, Pirate Booty and cut a watermelon into the shape of a ship. I got the idea from this post by Fit Body Full Life. I also served lemonade in these cute little skull sippy cups from Walmart. Spent (with napkins and plates): $25

I spent $125 total and we had over 15 kids come! That means I spend less than $8.33 per child.
Until I was 4 or 5 I had trouble with my Rs. My grandpa gave me a doll and named her Mary Rasmussen to give me an excuse to work on my Rs. Now I see Chiquita is having trouble with her Rs (both in English and the rolling R in Spanish). I know she and I aren't alone. What can parents do to help kids that struggle pronouncing this tricky letter?

I read this article on Mommy Speech Therapy that was helpful. I feel much better know that R really is a tricky letter, in English there are "at least 32 different R sounds". The author suggests identifying which specific R sounds your kids struggles with so you can work on that specific sound.

North Shore Pediatric Therapy posted this article with very specific suggestions. My favorite was making animal sounds like roosters, cats and tigers. She also put my mind at ease by stating that the age for master of the letter r could be anywhere from 5 1/2 to 7 years old. Chiquita and I are totally normal and on track!! Yeah!

While I was looking for suggestions in English I wanted to check on info for pronouncing rollings rs in Spanish. Basically in Spanish if there are two rrs together (used to be it's own letter erre) then it's prounounced with a trill. A single r is barely pronounced (so Chiquita has no issues) unless it's at the beginning of the word, in which case there's a very slight trill.

I found this hilarious video on facebook. I'm not sure it will help Chiquita, but it certainly made her laugh. She will watch it over and over again.
I've had to take a little break from blogging while my family moves house! I hope to be back soon with new adventures and ideas. I sell, giveaway or use for fabric all my clothes that don't work for me - or almost all.

There are some things that shouldn't be second hand and bras are one of them. I had some that were really never used because they didn't fit right, but I still felt weird about donating them. I had been thinking about making myself a sleep mask (as a mom that cosleeps I often need to sleep with the lights on). The ruffles, stretchy bra straps and pad were perfect to make a very easy and cute sleep mask.

I just cut two strips and sewed the top and bottoms, right sides facing out. I trimmed any extra fabric and slipped in a square of padding and sewed the sides with the strap in. I adjusted it to fit my head and sewed the straps together.

So cute! yogamamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02561110304439278085noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4256156571286733516.post-61539672057613553302014-09-19T09:01:00.000-07:002014-09-19T09:03:10.792-07:00Giveaway -Dia de los Muertos Nail Wraps

When Jamberry's new fall catalog came out I was SO excited for the Dia de Los Muertos nail wraps. Featuring bright colors and traditional sugar skulls, they just made me so happy! I ordered them right away, but I couldn't wait until November 1st (Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead) to wear them. I paired them with purple herringbone. This month is Hispanic Heritage Month and I decided that was all the excuse I needed!

I am sharing the love - one reader will win a complete manicure of Dia de Los Muertos nail wraps!

Dia de los Muertos is one of my favorite Mexican holidays. Last year we learned this fun Skelton song at the Provo library's Spanish storytime. Diez Esqueletos has really fun rhythm and rhyme. It's a great song to go with our Skeleton craft.

There's bunches of variations on the lyrics, here's the version we learned:

Cuando el reloj marca la una
Los esqueletos salen de su tumba,
Tumba, laca tumba, laca tumba, tumba, tumba

Cuando el reloj marca las dos
Los esqueletos miren su reloj,
Tumba, laca tumba, laca tumba, tumba, tumba

Cuando el reloj marca las tres
Los esqueletos vuelvan al revés,
Tumba, laca tumba, laca tumba, tumba, tumba

Cuando el reloj marca las cuatro
Los esqueletos miren su retrato,
Tumba, laca tumba, laca tumba, tumba, tumba

Cuando el reloj marca las cinco
Los esqueletos pegan un brinco,
Tumba, laca tumba, laca tumba, tumba, tumba

Cuando el reloj marca las seis
Los esqueletos juegan ajedrez,
Tumba, laca tumba, laca tumba, tumba, tumba

Cuando el reloj marca las siete
Los esqueletos se montan en cohete,
Tumba, laca tumba, laca tumba, tumba, tumba

Cuando el reloj marca las ocho
Los esqueletos comen bizcocho,
Tumba, laca tumba, laca tumba, tumba, tumba

Cuando el reloj marca las nueve
Los esqueletos todos se mueven,
Tumba, laca tumba, laca tumba, tumba, tumba

Cuando el reloj marca las diez
Los esqueletos duerman otra vez.

It's a great song to do with rhythm sticks. Also easy to put actions to. We also found another version on youtube that was fun.

When Giselle Shardlow was looking for bloggers to review her new book "Hello, Bali" we jumped at the chance! We received an electronic copy of the Spanish version "Hola, Bali".

First off, this book is ideal for language learners because of the repetition. Each page introduces a word/pose and then says "Hola, ______". It was natural to have Chiquita says this phrase along with me as we did each pose. So apart from the yoga aspect, for language learning it was great to have an action with each word to help her learn the vocabulary.

At the end they even had a section to learn Indonesian! It would be a fun extension activity to do the suggested actions with a partner repeating the phrases in both languages!!

The flow of the poses was great. It was very natural to move from one to the next. After the story the author has a couple pages reviewing each poses and it makes it very natural to learn the poses with the story and finish by repeating the poses in a flow sequence.

Ironically, the first time I got Chiquita to read this book with me she didn't want to. She kept asking if we could do "the other yoga book", Giselle Shardlow's "ABCs of Australian Animals". Ha! Once we started she was VERY enthusiastic about being the baby monkey for me to groom.

I haven't made a secret of the fact that I'm a big fan of Giselle's yoga books. I think these would be ideal for any kids yoga class or personal practice.yogamamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02561110304439278085noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4256156571286733516.post-41438531819721462052014-09-04T21:42:00.000-07:002014-09-04T21:42:00.124-07:00Living Without a Budget

When I say we live without a budget I don't mean we don't watch what we spend. Both hubby and I are self employed so our income varies. Some months we make lots and other months we make nothing! It was really difficult for me to get used to at first so I'd love to share some of our tips to survive "without" a budget. It basically comes down to two options:

Make More OR Spend Less

1. Make more

Hustle: We often do reverse budgeting. When we want to spend
extra money, like when we went to Europe, we decided how much we wanted
to spend and then figured out how much extra we had to work to make that
money. For the months before (and after) the trip we busted it,
working all hours to finish projects. This is my husband's favorite
approach to "budgeting" - just work more! I have convinced him that we
need some time to enjoy life so we've developed more strategies (thank
goodness).

Use rewards programs: Who says you can't get something for nothing? I love Swagbucks,
it's a program that gives me gift cards for things I do all the time
anyway, like search the internet, play games or shop on line. Some
people spend extra time on it, doing surveys, etc., but I don't feel
like that's worth my time. You can check it out here.
This is a referral link, I can earn a percentage if you sign up using
it (you can refer friends and earn more too!) I usually earn $5 or $10 a
month in Amazon gift card that let me buy a few extras worry free, just
doing what I normally do.

Turn a hobby into an extra source of cash: I'm not talking about
turning a hobby into a business, you can do that too if you want to,
but if you already have a main business it's still possible to bring in a
little extra cash and keep your hobbies a source of relaxation. I have
practiced yoga since I was 15. I love it! Becoming an instructor was a
no-brainer for me. It means that no matter how busy I get I still make
time to practice yoga and I'm not paying for classes. I was recently
introduced to Jamberry nail wraps.
I really like the wraps and when I did the math on how much I wanted to
spend on them, being a consultant was a great choice for me. I get my
own wraps at a discount and make a little money sharing them with
friends. Like I said, I'm not currently interested in making either of these pursuits my main source of income, so it's important for me to keep the right frame of mind. I have fun and money is a bonus!
Whatever your hobby is you could probably find a market to take a class
or buy a little product. Just make sure you only spend the amount of
time and effort that is worth it for you.

2. Spend less

Cut "luxury" reoccurring expenses: You've heard this one before, but it's particularly important when you don't have a steady monthly income. Check in regularly on the bills you have to keep to see if you can lower them. For example, we need smart phones with unlimited talk, text and data for work, but I've lowered our bill just by checking up on new plans and calling a few times a year to make sure we're getting the best deal. Same goes for internet and cable.

Use coupons: I love SavingStar - it loads coupons straight onto my store's reward card, saving me time and money. An extra perk is that my husband refuses to use coupons but he will enter our phone number or slide a rewards card, so this way we save even when he shops! SavingStar has some cash back offers too, so redeeming coupons can be double rewarding.

Buy Less: Duh right? Just because something is cheap or a "good deal" doesn't mean you need it. My husband used to buy new clothes every week. Every week! If you've got a shop-a-holic it doesn't matter how cheap it is you'll still spend money you don't have to. Hubby is learning to buy less often (for himself and Chiquita too).

Who can blame her? With summer on the way out we've got to get it while we can.

Besides a tasty treat it made a fun and easy craft!

Supplies:
- two paper plates
- red and green paint
- black paper
- hole punch

We painted one plate green and one plate red. I cut out the middle of the red plate and glued it on the green. Then Chiquita punched out some holes from the black paper. I put dots of glue all over and Chiquita added the seeds. Easy-peasy.

Chiquita has long been a cowgirl. From riding horses at Thanksgiving Point Farm Country to watching Sheriff Callie she's loved the "wild west".

So one morning she asked me if we could make a lasso. I love making her random requests reality! I grabbed some rope from the garage and googled "How to make a lasso." Instructables had a great, simple tutorial.

Chiquita was thrilled. She lassoed Baby Chato, Daddy and some furniture.
Chiquita loves giving things to her friends so we often take treats to neighbors. I have seen dozens of posts using cardboard tubes as containers - with a million ideas on ways to decorate them. I had the pun-tastic idea of making bees and adding a note "Just BEEcause".

Supplies:

cardboard tubes (toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls cut in thirds)

yellow paint

black construction paper

googly eyes

black chenille stems

marker

tissue paper

First paint your tubes yellow. Chiquita was having fun "mixing" the paint on her tray so we alternated between painting on the tube and just rolling the tube in the paint. Both ways worked great.

I cut a bunch of little strips of black construction paper. Chiquita added them while the paint was still wet so that we didn't need glue. Then we had to let them dry. I put them out in the hot summer sun to speed that up.

While they were drying I cut out wings from tissue paper. Then Chiquita glued on the google eyes and wings. I drew on the mouths (sometimes Chiquita gets carried away with markers and I wanted them to look like bees!

I folded the top and added a half of a chenille stem for antenna. We put in a few candies and folded the bottom sideways (so the points are in the front and back, does that make sense). I think this makes the bottom look like the stingers.

Now their ready for us to give to anyone we want - doorbell ditching anyone?

Part of Chiquita's cultural heritage comes from Peru, so I was excited to find this traditional legend at our local library! We checked out the Spanish version, but it's also available in English. It is the Andean flood legend and in this version the llama is the one who leads the man and all the animals to safety on the top of a high peak when Mamacocha (the ocean) floods the earth.

It was fairly heavy text, so I would recommend this more for pre-schoolers and older, though if you're a good storyteller you can paraphrase the story for toddlers and enjoy the beautiful pictures. There's also lines that repeat that are great to have kids repeat with you as you tell the story. I've found that it's a great way to keep kids involved in the book and improve their language skills. It was fun to see all the Andean animals.

Chiquita didn't want Mickey Mouse nuggets. She wanted chicken stars. We had just got home and I wasn't going to drive anywhere, even I don't spoil my child that much. I get so tired of making her food she won't eat, most of the time when hubby isn't home, it's just her and I eating so I don't have that feeling of making her eat what everyone else is eating. We needed to come to a compromise! Finally Chiquita decided she would eat Minnie Mouse nuggets, but she didn't think I had any of those.

Aha!

We'd just picked tons of juicy cherries and I was sure I could make some yummy red bows to turn those Mickeys into Minnies! I just sliced the cherry in half and removed the pit. Then I took one half and made two diagonal cuts in one side, like a triangle that doesn't quite meet up, and did the same on the opposite side. The two little horizontal cuts made it into a cute bow! She was hesitant at first, "Mom, cherries don't go on chicken nuggets!", but in the end she ate all six of them with gusto!

In my never ending quest for protein and recent quest for weight loss I've been experimenting with meal replacement bars. I really wanted something made with real food that included all the food groups. This recipe is inspired by a lentil cookie recipe from foodnetwork.com and it is Chiquita and Mommy approved!

Ingredients:
2/3 cups lentils
2 cups water
2 cinnamon sticks (or 2 tsp ground cinnamon)

2 large carrots
6 oz pineapple juice
1 egg
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder

2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup rolled oats.

1 cup dried fruit (craisins, raisins, or any other dried fruit in small chunks)

Let the first three ingredients cook either in a pan on low heat or in a crock pot until the lentils are nice and soft. Remove the cinnamon sticks and let cool.

Throw the lentils and the next 7 ingredients into a food processor and blend very well. Add flour and oats and blend just until well mixed. Stir in the dried fruit.

Pour the mixture into a greased 9" x 13" pan (nonstick spray works fine) and bake on 375 for about 30 minutes. After cooled cut into 16 bars (a pizza cutter works great!). They will go bad so I recommend refrigerating them unless they'll be eaten in a few days. With Chiquita I actually call them cranberry cookies because she loves the cranberries so much.
This craft was inspired by this craft from "My Picture Art Class" by Nellie Shepherd
(the same book where we found the Funky Fish Hat). Getting craft books from the library has been a fun was to decide in crafts while encouraging reading. Chiquita likes to look at all the projects, but isn't concerned with the results looking like those in the book, thankfully.

Supplies:

Tissue paper

Cardboard

School glue

Glitter

Fish cut-outs

Crayons

Any other craft supplies you want

With all the supplies out, I and handed her the fish cut outs and just let her decorate them however she wanted, trying to keep direction to a minimum (confession: the orange and silver fish is mine). I cut down a few of the fish into other creatures for variety: the sea star, shell and jelly fish. Finally I had to tell Chiquita no more fish because our cardboard wasn't large enough for more creatures!

Originally I planned to paint the cardboard blue like suggested in the book, but when it came time I didn't want to pull out the paint and deal with the additional clean-up involved with painting. So I separated out all the blue tissue paper and poured lots of glue on the cardboard. We spread out the strips of tissue paper until the whole circle was covered. Chiquita decided on the placement of all the sea creatures while I wielded the glue.

I really like the result! I'm hoping to display this a little more permanently - maybe in Chato's room or the bathroom.

As a mom, it had been a LONG time for me! Between changing diapers, making dinner and typing away I couldn't even get the polish on all my nails before they were smudged. I didn't want to "waste" precious babysitter time or my hard earned money at the salon. I just thought cute nails weren't going to happen for me!

Then I discovered Jamberry!

Jamberry nails are gorgeous, trendy nail wraps that are easy and quick to apply. There's NO dry time so I didn't have to stop my busy life for a minute. There's so many designs that I had no trouble finding styles that spoke to me.

After trying Jamberry myself I saw how excited people around me were about these cute nails and before I knew it I became a consultant. With all the compliments on my nails I almost couldn't help starting to sell.

To celebrate I want to give FOUR of my readers their choice of a mani or pedi! Winners can pick one of the designs below (clockwise from top left): Etched Leaf, Decorative Black, Arrowhead, or Popsicles.

This craft was inspired by the Funky Fish from "My Picture Art Class" by Nellie Shepherd. It was really just inspired because we did it totally different!

Supplies:

Plastic 2 liter soda bottle

scissors

scrap piece of cardboard

1 inch hole punch

magazines, old coloring pages or used (and clean) aluminum foil

duct tape in any color

Elmer's glue

standard hole punch

yarn or ribbon

Cut a nice big hole in the side of your plastic bottle - big enough that it can sit on your head. For Chiquita that meant a big oval that was almost the whole side of the bottle. If they don't want to wear it you can leave your bottle intact. Chiquita really loved the idea of a hat from the book.

Cut out a tail and dorsal fin from cardboard. Attach them to the bottle with duct tape - go ahead and cover the pieces completely with duct tape in your chosen color. The standard silver color is great for a fish! I actually used the plastic that I cut out the bottle for this but since it's curved it was hard to work with and I wouldn't necessarily recommend that.

Use the big hole punch to make LOTS of scales. I originally intended to just use old coloring pages but Chiquita wasn't really happy about mutilating her pictures so I added magazines. The glossy paper from magazines was nice I thought. Aluminum foil would be really nice but we didn't have any used around and I didn't want to use new.

Add a stripe of glue near the bottom of the bottle. Have your kid add the scales. Continue with another line of glue above that, encouraging them to overlap the scales a little over the previous row. Add until you get to where the bottle starts to narrow. Add little strips (to avoid wrinkles) of duct tape until the "head" is covered. Color pupils on two white circles cut out with your hole punch and glue them on for eyes.

Chiquita loves to have friends over and usually I'm just fine with letting them have relaxed free play. Sometimes they get restless before going home time though and it's nice to have a simple craft to keep everyone happy. Sometimes I just break out the crayons or playdough, but this time I decided to help them make flower crowns

I really love my 1 inch hole punch, I didn't expect it, but it has been well worth the investment. For the flowers I punch some petals from mostly white magazines and used circles I'd cut out previously from construction paper. I had the girls select a construction paper circle for the center, added some glue for them and had them add at least five petals. We used this as counting practice - "Do you have five petals yet? How many petals do you have? How many more do you need?"

When they got tired of making flowers I grabbed an empty cardboard box (truthfully, I emptied the last of the fruit snacks out of a not-so-empty box because it was the right size) and cut strips for the head bands. Just a tip - I took the open box and tested putting it on their heads to make sure it was big enough. Then I adjusted the strip to fit each of them and used some duct tape (very fashionable, I know) to make the circle.

We glued on the flowers and had a photo shoot! Chiquita is so cute about taking pictures now - she loves to pose! These crowns were totally recycled but I think they ended up looking really sweet.
Chiquita and I just read this cute book, Milo Armadillo by Jan Fearnley, in Spanish, though it was originally written in English. It's an adorable tale of a little girl who doesn't get what she wanted but ended up with just what

she needed - Milo Armadillo.

Chiquita loved this book so much that she started asking for an armadillo for her birthday. I have some little skill in crochet and knitting so I thought I'd see if there was a pattern for the armadillo from the book.
Good news = There is!
Bad news = It's a little beyond what I can manage with a 5 month old in tow.
So, to Grandma and Auntie (who are knitting whizzes) - here's a little hint: This pattern from the author on Ravelry and the book in English or Spanish would make an awesome birthday present.

*Update* Apparently the Spanish version is out of print! Since it's $100+ I don't think this is likely as a birthday present for a pre-schooler. Grandma has informed me her plan is to create a bilingual book by buying an English version and handwriting in the Spanish text! I think it's a great idea and will make the book extra personal for Chiquita. yogamamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02561110304439278085noreply@blogger.com1
