We're taking a break from the Spanish alphabet this week to learn about Chinese New Year's. So many people have posted great crafts and books that I'm excited to try some out.
Chinese New Year is more appropriately called Spring Festival or Lunar New Year since it's celebrated in countries other than China. Chiquita and I watched this great video from history.com explaining a little about it's origins and some of the aspects of the celebration.
I had no idea it was celebrated for 15 days! Chiquita was excited about the firecrackers and dragons!
Later, when I friend came over we colored this fun Year of the Snake coloring page from Activity Village.
We will continue the celebration this week with more crafts and finish off by attending a Chinese New Year celebration at the Salt Lake City Library on Saturday the 9th. If you live in the area you should check it out, I think these sort of events have a greater impression on our kids than lesson plans.
