Part of doing crafts with toddlers is being flexible and letting them just experiment rather than complete a certain project.
Chiquita loved the last butterfly craft so much that I just cut a bunch of butterfly shapes out of a paper she'd colored on with some plans for a craft. I put a piece of scotch tape on the back of each and soon we were both covered in "stickers".
Next she willingly (hurrah) stuck them all to the window (part of Mommy's original plan). Don't they look pretty?
Finally she pronounced "no stickers!" and took the tape off all of them and placed them carefully next to her favorite plant.
Not exactly what I'd planned but she had fun and in the end that was all I wanted. What projects have you done with your kids that ended up different than you expected?
