Flower "Vase"

I've raved about our "babysitter" before, but I love that she loves Chiquita.  A while back she gave her a giant flower - Chiquita loves flowers and when our friend first started caring for her (when Chiquita was still suspicious of grown-ups, especially those who didn't speak English) she won her over by picking flowers with her in our backyard.

We needed a special spot to put this beautiful huge flower and I thought it would be a great time for a craft!

Supplies:
  • Oatmeal canister
  • Lots of old magazines (home and garden or natural beauty magazines are a good bet for flowers!)
  • Kid-friendly scissors
  • Glue
Chiquita got scissor practice and did a great job cutting out flowers (and some other pictures that she just liked too much to not cut out).  *Tip* rip out the page of the magazine before your preschooler attempts to cut out the picture, it makes it a lot easier.

I raced cutting out more flowers since I knew her interest would waver before we had enough flowers to cover the whole canister.  Meanwhile, she started gluing them on.  Chiquita needed a little convincing to overlap pictures, but by our last few pictures she was fine covering up some pictures to add ones she liked better so we were able to cover all the canister!
