DIY Spy Glass & other DIY toys

Chiquita loved playing with the magnifying glass in the garden at the Treehouse Museum in Ogden so I thought I could make her a play spy glass (doesn't actually magnify anything).  Super simple!

Supplies:
  • Pringles lid (you could use any small clear plastic circle)
  • bit of cardboard or thick stick
  • duct tape
I just rolled the cardboard up and took a long strip of duct tape up one side of the cardboard and around the edge of the pringles lid and another strip up the other side and around the edge of the lid, just overlapping a little with the other.  I wrapped a strip of duct tape around the base to make it a little more sturdy and that was it!  Chiquita loves looking through it, thinks it's the funniest thing.  She had a friend to play so I had to whip up another one so they could both play.

Other DIY toys we made with that have stood the test of time are :
  1. Tea set
  2. Lacing Cards
  3. Salt Dough Bead Necklace
  4. Name Games
  5. Hungry Bunny
  6. Color Sorting Cans (though she uses them more as drums now)
  7. Fire Engine box
She really plays with all these on at least a weekly basis.  I love making Chiquita toys, especially when I see her really loving to play with them.  Not every craft we make stands up to repeat playing so I just try to let her enjoy it while it lasts!
